Mirena (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is a hormone-releasing system placed in your uterus to prevent pregnancy for as long as you want for up to 5 years.

Mirena also treats heavy periods in women who choose intrauterine contraception.

Mirena also treats period pain, even if you have endometriosis.

Mirena is an excellent device to consider using if you have any problems with your periods regardless of your age. It can be used safely even if you have not had children or have had caesarean sections. Anne can usually fit the device during a normal consultation.

The costs vary as in certain situations the government will subsidise the cost of the device.
